Gooey is a friendly creature and recurring character from the Kirby series.

Gooey is a blob of Dark Matter which is friendly towards Kirby, the title character of the series. They appear in a variety of games and assist Kirby in a variety of ways, ranging from healing Kirby and fighting alongside him.

Gooey's body is composed of Dark Matter, a goopy substance of unknown origin which is able to consume or possess other living things, as well as take the forms of clouds. Despite this, Gooey can still be harmed by conventional means.

Gooey's behavior is rather friendly. Gooey often helps out his friends in many of his appearances. Despite this, he seems to be oblivious of nearly everything around him, unable to recall where he is or what time it is, even struggling to remember his own name.

Gooey possesses the ability to eat his enemies. To do so, he stretches out his long tongue to grab them, and then he pulls them in. Unlike Kirby, Gooey can only eat one foe at a time because of this. However, Gooey can also eat enemies while underwater, which is something Kirby cannot normally do.

In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Gooey is able to take on a flying form during the final battle. In normal stages, he can fly by inhaling air like Kirby.

In his first appearance, Gooey could heal Kirby after a mid-boss if he was found in the bag. He only appears in the bag if the animal that was supposed to be in it was already paired with Kirby.

In Kirby Star Allies, Gooey appears as a playable Dream Friend, this time with a full, expanded moveset. He no longer uses his tongue to eat enemies, instead using it as a whip to attack. His other attacks include certain abilities he was able to use in Kirby's Dream Land 3: Burning, Parasol, and Stone. He no longer inhales air to float, and instead gains the Dark Matter-like orbs on his back, allowing him to hover and shoot dark lasers from his face.

Physical Appearance[]

Gooey's Other Form

Gooey resembles other Dark Matter beings slightly. He takes the form of a dark blob with a happy face. In early depictions, he was black in color, but later versions have him as a dark blue. Gooey also has a long tongue which can stretch out.

In Kirby's Dreamland 3, Gooey's flying form has a resemblance to other Dark Matter beings, as he sprouts yellow orbs on his back.
